Program Overview

MBM’s Philanthropic Internship Program enables students to take a deep dive into the world of philanthropy, working to learn the importance of work ethic, team building, communication, and accountability. The program focuses on instilling philanthropic citizenship behavior while equipping youth with the skills that encourage them to explore and research.
Philanthropic citizenship education encourages students to move beyond ideas of ‘charity’, instead embracing a ‘social justice mentality’, while focusing on building philanthropic behavior: helping others, local community building, volunteering, social action, charitable giving, and advocacy.
The internship is designed to ensure that all youth can contribute regardless of their social, geographic, or economic circumstances.
Student-led and adult-facilitated activities ensure that students are challenged to think critically and explore, engage, and grow in areas that interest them, all while being inspired and empowered to create a lasting impact on children and youth in underserved communities across New York City and the Philippines.

Additional Testimonials

"While at MBM, I learned that providing quality education to children in underserved communities can be more complicated than it seems. It can depend on building the right scaffolding, such as access to safe water and transportation, period products, and a culture of care. During my short time there, I appreciated that my skills and experience across various areas were not only recognized but also put to use, giving me the opportunity to grow in my roles. If you're looking to volunteer with an organization that has global reach, supports youth through access to arts and education, values organization and communication, has a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer cohort, and considers your career goals, MBM is it."
- Lorna Nakell, Volunteer Marketing Lead and Grant Writer
- Ratwah Alhazmi, Volunteer Business
Partnerships & Outreach (BPO) Team Lead
"My experience at Minds Beyond Measure was incredibly rewarding. As the Business Partnerships & Outreach Team Lead, I gained hands-on leadership experience, strengthened my communication and organizational skills, and learned how to guide a team toward shared goals. What stood out most was the supportive and collaborative environment where every idea was valued and personal growth was encouraged. MBM gave me the confidence to step into leadership and make a meaningful impact alongside a passionate team dedicated to changing lives. I would highly recommend MBM to anyone looking to grow professionally while contributing to a mission-driven organization.”
- Maddy Fuhry, Grant Writing Intern/Volunteer
"I learned a lot during my time at MBM. A big thing was learning more about the nonprofit world. More specifically, how grant writing fits into it. I learned what it takes to write a good grant. It is not just about formatting and numbers, though those things are important, it is also about telling a story of why your nonprofit deserves funding. I loved getting to know the story of MBM and all that Jaime does with it. I really fell in love with the mission and how much it has helped kids and teachers in New York and the Philippines. I’m so glad I was able to have the experience of volunteering with MBM. It helped grow my love for grant writing and nonprofit work and I know my time there has greatly impacted any work I will do in this field in the future. Anyone who wants to gain experience in grant writing or just nonprofits in general should seriously consider this internship. I had a very valuable experience volunteering at MBM, and I’m so grateful for the time I had there."
