- Water Tank in the Philippines -
The Journey Unfolded

Tribute to Lolo
This project stands on the generosity of Mr. Avelino Borejon, or "Lolo", who selflessly offered his land and water source for the benefit of the community. His kindness made it possible to bring clean water to generations of students and teachers. Although he has since passed away, his legacy lives on, flowing through every drop of water this tank provides.
Lack of Clean Water
The Problem at Hand
For years, access to clean water has been one of the most pressing challenges faced by San Miguel National High School and the surrounding island community. Students often arrived at school carrying bottles of water from home, never enough to last the day, while the school relied almost entirely on rainwater, which was both limited and unsafe for drinking.
The lack of water severely affected sanitation. Many comfort rooms became unusable, forcing students to fetch water manually or resort to unsafe alternatives. Long walking distances, extreme heat, and the burden of carrying heavy water containers led to declining attendance and health risks, highlighting an urgent need for a sustainable, long-term solution.
Water Accessibility

Below were the conditions of the neighborhoods and comfort rooms before the water tank was installed.
Phase 1
The Excavation

Phase 1 marked the beginning of the physical journey. Local laborers excavated the site where the water tank would stand, work that required daily travel across challenging terrain to reach the remote water source. Tools, materials, and manpower had to be transported on foot, making every day a test of endurance and commitment.
After 15 days of continuous labor, the pit was completed, laying the foundation for everything that would follow.
Long Commutes and Efforts
This content shows the long daily journey and the hands-on work that shaped the foundation of the water tank.
Phase 2
Building Systems
With the excavation complete, Phase 2 focused on constructing the concrete water tank itself. Materials were sourced from local suppliers and transported to the island, a process that required careful coordination and community support. Skilled laborers then assembled the structure, ensuring it was durable enough to serve as a long-term water reservoir for the school.
This phase transformed an empty pit into a permanent system built to last.

Phase 3
The Installation

The final phase involved installing the plumbing system that would connect the water source to the school. Pipes, fittings, and connections were carefully laid out to ensure efficient and reliable water flow. With support from Minds Beyond Measure and hands-on help from volunteers, the installation phase brought the project to completion.
On August 29, the first water connection was successfully made, marking a major milestone for the school.
From Prayers to Reality
These moments capture the final steps that brought water from the source to the school, including a priest-led blessing of the site as part of a traditional religious rite.
The Canteen
Grand Opening

Canteen in the Philippines
The completion of the water system made it possible to safely operate the school canteen, an important step toward improving student health and daily life. The grand opening marked more than just a new facility; it symbolized dignity, nourishment, and progress for the entire school community.
With access to clean water, students can now drink, eat, and learn in a safer, healthier environment.
A celebration of community, resilience, and a future made possible through clean water.
